Oh boy, here we go. So, Nintendo’s stirring the pot in Canada with some price stuff for their Switch consoles. No clue why I care about this, but they’re fiddling with prices for the OG Nintendo Switch, the flashy OLED one, and the Switch Lite. Accessories and whatnot are getting a price check too, including those little Amiibo thingamajigs. And this will hit their Canadian store on August 1. Or maybe not. Who knows, right?
What’s funny is, they just said “market conditions.” Like, what does that even mean? Inflation could be a thing, or maybe it’s tariffs. Feels like a word smoothie. Not even a hint if this means prices are going up or down. Odds are they’ll go up, just saying. If they drop the prices, I’ll eat my hat—or maybe just a cookie.
Right now, pricing’s like CAD $399 for the standard Switch. The OLED guy is $449, and the Lite dude is $259. Feels like I’m reading off a menu or something. And hey, just guessing, but there’s talk about prices maybe hopping up a smidge—like 5 or 10%.
Now, rewind to April and Nintendo was in a tizzy over Switch 2 pre-orders, blaming the Trump-era tariffs. Original date was April 9, 2025, but they hit snooze thanks to political whatnot. Even so, they managed to roll out Switch 2 by June 5. Whew, that happened.
The fun bit? The Switch 2 isn’t part of this pricing mess. It’s got this swanky 7.9-inch screen, all turbocharged inside, and man, it’s selling like hotcakes. Blew through 3.5 million sales in four days. Bet you didn’t see that coming.
If you’re eyeing a Switch 2, my advice (not that it’s worth much) is to keep tabs on those UK and US retailers ‘cause stock tells you where it’s at. And seriously, follow Tom’s Hardware on Google News. They’ve got the scoops, the reviews, the big news. Click that Follow button, trust me, maybe?
