Oh man, where do I even start? Battlefield 6’s open beta weekend—wow, it was a madhouse. Like, half a million people all clamoring to play at the same time. Breaking records and whatnot. Poor Call of Duty probably had no idea what hit it. Seriously, folks, it feels like we’re back in the day, duking it out between two big-shot FPS games. It’s wild, isn’t it?
These days, it’s all about who’s axing more devs or share prices skyrocketing. Gone are the good ol’ days when it was just about the games, the rivalry, the passion. I kinda miss it. Watching these two giants go head-to-head used to be all the rage, even if the fans went a bit too crazy. Now? Feels like you’re just waiting for one team to get the boot. Sad times, really.
And yet, here we are. Call of Duty versus Battlefield—again. Think about this: CoD’s been hogging the spotlight for ages, ruling the holidays year after year, mediocre or not. Until now, that is.
So, this weekend, what happened? Stats rolled in, right from SteamDB, showing Battlefield 6 hitting 521,079 players. CoD’s top was around 491k. No small feat for CoD, especially when you throw in Black Ops 6 and Warzone—but yeah, they got outnumbered this time. Battlefield’s beta was free, so hey, that could have helped boost the numbers. Who doesn’t love free stuff, right?
Imagine EA’s excitement, though. I bet they’re moonwalking in their offices. The buzz was insane, with over 300,000 people trying to dive in before the beta even kicked off. Not to mention, the chaos with people playing and, yeah, some cheating too. After the letdown that was Battlefield 2042, this must feel like a much-needed win for them.
Thing is, we don’t actually know the full player count. Concurrent numbers—sure, they’re impressive but don’t show the whole shebang. Maybe all those players played at once, or maybe Sunday had a different crowd. Only EA knows, and they’re not talking unless it’s super flattering.
Who knows what’ll happen when it actually releases. CoD’s being all mysterious about Black Ops 7, saying it’ll be out before 2025 ends. Betting they’ll aim for early November after Battlefield’s hype calms a bit. It’ll be interesting to see how these two compare. Game devs must get a kick out of this stuff.
Oh, and by the way, another Battlefield 6 beta weekend’s coming up, running from Thursday 14th to Sunday 17th. So, if you missed out, there’s your chance.
