Today, they’ve rolled out refreshed versions of the Surface Pro 11 and Surface Laptop 7, now equipped with Intel’s cutting-edge Lunar Lake processors. These models are unique as they mark Microsoft’s debut into Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs, aimed primarily at business clientele desiring the latest Surface devices with x86 processors.
Now, let’s talk about the Surface Laptop 7. Picture this—a sleek device with Intel muscle starting at $1,499.99. It’s designed to run Windows 11 Pro seamlessly, backed by Intel Core Ultra Series 2 CPUs and an Intel Arc GPU. The machine promises versatility with options for 16GB or 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and storage options ranging from 256GB to a whopping 1TB on an M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD. And for those of you who love a good display, it offers a choice between a 13.8-inch or 15-inch anti-reflective IPS screen, both running at 120Hz. Add Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and a promise of 5G in the future, and you have a tech lover’s dream.
While the Intel Surface laptops sit comfortably alongside their Snapdragon counterparts, they cater exclusively to commercial customers. This means you’ll need to turn to Microsoft’s business storefront if you want to snag one of these models. The options don’t end at processors; these devices boast Intel’s AI Boost NPU, offering serious AI performance with TOPS ratings of 40 and 48.
On the surface—quite literally—these Intel and Snapdragon devices appear almost identical. Yet, the Intel models sport a handy anti-reflective screen, a fresh card-reader variant on the Surface Laptop, and NFC tech in the Surface Pro, all contributing to a richer user experience.
Microsoft hasn’t stopped there. They’re planning a 5G variant for the Surface Laptop 7, a first for this model. This follows on from only the Surface Pro being available in a 5G version so far. Stay tuned for more updates on that front.
Taking a closer look at the Surface Pro 11, it’s priced from $1,499.99 and mirrors many of the Laptop’s specs with a few unique twists. It features a dazzling 13-inch, 2880×1920 OLED or LCD touch display, all housed within that familiar 3:2 aspect ratio and smooth 120Hz refresh rate. It promises about 10 hours of web browsing on a single charge and comes with all the connectivity you’d expect, including USB4 ports, Surface Connect, and Nano-SIM compatibility.
Color-wise, if you’re picking Intel, you’ll choose between Platinum and Black, leaving the more vibrant options for Snapdragon variants. And speaking of money, there’s a notable $400 rise when you compare the introductory Snapdragon models and their Intel equivalents, with the latter starting at a cool $1,499.
It’s clear Microsoft is bolstering its business product offerings. This launch echoes their earlier foray with the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6, which also targeted business users with older chassis but newer internals. Now, savvy professionals can enjoy the fresh new looks of the Snapdragon range without sacrificing their preference for Intel’s power.
In addition, Microsoft has unveiled a new Surface Dock, known as the “Surface USB4 Dock.” Priced at $199, this compact version offers fewer ports than the previous Thunderbolt 4 variant but is also $100 lighter on the pocket.
