You know, there’s this YouTube guy—Zack Nelson from JerryRigEverything—who decided to get gutsy and pull apart the Nintendo Switch 2. Kinda wild, right? He wanted to show everyone the insides, like a science project gone rogue. And guess what, he was mostly impressed. Turns out, inside that little machine, almost everything’s super modular. The Joy-Con 2 sticks, the headphone jack, you name it.
There’s buzz about the Switch 2 having pricier parts, maybe costing you more for repairs. But, hey, tearing it down isn’t rocket science. Just grab a Phillips screwdriver—and okay, there’s a special tri-point one too. Anyway, Zack managed to piece it back together with no hiccups, like assembling a Lego set or something.
Now, here’s where things get sticky—literally. The batteries are glued down like they’re holding on for dear life. Unlike the old Switch, which had a more relaxed attitude about battery removal. You’ll need to douse ’em in alcohol and pull with some oomph. Plus, the game card slot and USB-C ports are stubbornly non-modular, so if they go kaput, you might have to replace the whole motherboard. Unless you’re a soldering wizard—then maybe not.
Remember when Zack messed with the screen? No? Well, he peeled off this screen protector thingy that’s supposed to keep glass from flying everywhere, kind of like car windows do. He practically dared the screen to break by going at it with channel lock pliers. Fifty smacks later, it finally gave up, turning into a mosaic of broken glass. Amazingly, a quick reset brought it back to life, game-ready. Makes you wonder what sort of wizardry Nintendo’s using to make these things so tough.
I mean, you probably shouldn’t be dropping it just to see what happens—it could survive, but what about your heart rate? And the warranty will be out the window faster than you can say “oops.”
