Okay, so get this. We’ve got some fresh faces — well, sort of — barging into the whole Marvel universe chaos, right? Captain America, She-Hulk, Spidey, and Wolverine are already there mixing it up in Marvel Cosmic Invasion. Now comes some other guys. Why did the phrase “powerful newcomers” make me think of some new energy drink lineup? No clue. But anyway, here we go.
Enter Beta Ray Bill. Ever heard of him? Yeah, he’s not your garden-variety superhero. Picture Thor, but with a horse face — yes, really. And he’s cybernetic to boot. His turf? Planet Korbinite. He’s swinging that massive hammer — Stormbreaker. This dude first popped up in The Mighty Thor No. 337. Walt Simonson, the guy who shaped Thor’s look and feel, introduced him to us. How he once held Mjolnir? Still sticks in my head. Seriously, imagine a horse-faced Thor with Mjolnir. Wild, right?
Oh, right, there’s also the Silver Surfer. Always found it odd — no offense to surfers, but who rides a surfboard in space? Yet, here he is. Big silvery dude with the Power Cosmic at his fingertips, cracking down on Annihilus’ space bug army. Sounds as weird as it does cool. Makes you wonder about his playlist while blasting through the galaxy. Just me? Alright, moving on.
Oh, almost forgot — San Diego Comic-Con… such a sensory overload. The creators of this Marvel Cosmic Invasion laid out some juicy stuff about its voice cast there. Who knew voice actors had such range? Anyway, it made me wonder if they voice other characters when not superhero-ing.
And so, by the way, this explosive Marvel adventure is headed to platforms aplenty: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, all lined up for sometime this year. Or maybe later. Who knows? My calendar’s already a mess.
