Alright, so here’s me trying to wrap my head around this whole Yuji Horii situation. I mean, what’s up with this guy and secrets, right? Or maybe he just loves dropping little hints like breadcrumbs. Anyway—
So, here’s the deal. Imagine you’re chilling at this comic con in Napoli, Italy, right? All wide-eyed and probably jetlagged. And there’s Yuji Horii, the guy behind Dragon Quest, chatting away on this panel. Suddenly, out of nowhere, he kinda blurts out something about a Chrono Trigger remake. And you’re sitting there thinking, “Wait, did he just say that?”
It gets better. When someone on the panel asked him to repeat it—maybe they weren’t paying attention?—Horii just covers his mouth. Literally. And the translator goes all, “You heard nothing.” I mean, classic move, right? Cue the wild applause. Everyone loves a good slip of the tongue, especially when it’s juicy.
But here’s the kicker. This isn’t Horii’s first rodeo with spilling the beans. Back in July 2015—wow, that feels like ages ago—he let out some big news on the 3DS versions of Dragon Quest VII and VIII getting localized. And this wasn’t even fresh news in Japan. Oh, and let’s not forget how he casually mentioned Dragon Quest XI popping up on the Switch (or whatever they were calling it back then, the “NX”). Mind-blowing stuff, especially since we thought it was just gonna hit PS4 and 3DS.
Anyway, fast forward to March 11. Thirty years since Chrono Trigger first dropped in Japan. Square Enix teases us with talk of more birthday celebrations for the game, but they’re all hush-hush on the details. Maybe Horii’s little slip was part of the plan. Or maybe he just gets excited. Who knows!
