Nintendo’s got this new thing with pre-orders for the Switch 2 games. Yeah, they just opened up the floodgates along with the console pre-orders. And, out of sheer habit or maybe some weird obsession, I immediately checked the “Game file size” bit for each game. Turns out, some of these files are like, whoa, way bigger than I figured. More like the hefty ones you’d see on a PC than the crumbly sizes we had on the first Switch. Funny, right? Or maybe not.
It kinda makes sense, I guess. This new console is supposed to be all powerful, pushing games at 1080p and beyond. But here’s the catch — stack a few of these games on your Switch 2, and bam, your 256 GB is history. Poof, gone. Like, here’s some game sizes we’re looking at for the Switch 2, and honestly, it’s like a buffet where you can’t fit everything on your plate.
All those games lumped together are tipping the scales at over 300 GB. So, basically, now you’re shopping for a microSD Express card. Funny thing — seems kinda wild to buy storage for a console you haven’t even seen in real life yet. But hey, guess it’s a smart move? Grab the biggest one you can, they say. These cards aren’t just faster, they also demand more dough. You know, unlike those basic microSD cards we used with the old Switch and stuff like the Steam Deck. Oh, and heads-up: your old cards won’t jive with the Switch 2, unless you’re just flipping through screenshots or clips from the first Switch. Makes sense? Maybe. Maybe not.
